Line-Scan Illumination Techniques

FRONT LIGHTING 

Light bounces off the surface under inspection.  Front lighting works best for opaque materials with a flat-finished surface, such as printed material, textile cloth etc.

BACK LIGHTING

Light is transmitted through the object. This technique is commonly used for measurements of parts, detecting pin holes and detecting presence or absence of features.

LOW-ANGLE (OBLIQUE) FRONT LIGHTING 

Low-angle oblique lighting works best for enhancing the contrast of surface topographical features. This technique is also referred to as DARK FIELD LIGHTING.
